Fun fact: history of the KNSM island

The KNSM island is named after the Royal Dutch Steamboat Company. This company dates back to 1 October 1856 and received the designation “royal” immediately upon its founding by the then king, Willem III. His name would be carried by the first ship. The company’s ships sailed in the nineteenth century to St. Petersburg, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Bordeaux, and the Mediterranean area.
